Alex Duncan is a family physician from the UK. He studied at Cambridge University and the London Hospital Medical College. He is a member of the UK Royal College of General Practitioners.
Alex and Eleanor ran a rural health programme in a remote mountain valley in Afghanistan from 2002 -2008, training illiterate village women in health promotion and treating common illness. Since then he has been involved in family medicine training with Edinburgh University and is currently on the faculty of the Department of Distance Educationat teh Christian Medical College, Vellore, in south India, where he teaches on family medicine programmes and face to face skills workshops.
Alex has a PhD from the Open University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education from Dundee Universty and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Health from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
He was awarded MBE (a civl award) for services to Primary Care in 2009
Eleanor Duncan studied French and German at Oxford University, and then worked in business. Eleanor and Alex together prepared and delivered the training to village health workers in Afghanistan. On return to the UK, Eleanor studied for a Masters in Business Administration at Newcastle University Business School and graduated at Top of Class. She also has a Post Graduate Certificate in Health Education and Development from London University. She continues to be active in community health training and has helped to edit the 4th Edition of Setting Up Community Health Prgrammes by Ted Lankester and Nathan Grills (published March 2019, Oxford Univerity Press).
Eleanor was awarded MBE in 2009.
